As Christians it is very important that we hold each other accountable.

Galatians 6:1&2 "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.  But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted."

I Thessalonians 5:11, "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

I Thessalonians 5:14, "And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone."

We all sin and because of this we need people around us to help keep us in check. Having someone to be accountable to simply means someone who will remind you of what God says and tell you when you’re not following Him. You and this person can grow together, cry together and laugh together. When one of you wants to do wrong the other must make sure it does not happen. A lot of the times you have to be forceful and stand strong but in the end it’s all worth it because both of you will be closer to God. Two or more people can be acountable to each other. They all have to be in agreement of God’s standards of living. Some think that they will be okay and that they don’t need someone to be accountable to. This is not true. Everyone is tempted and a lot of times we just need someone to give us a little push in the right direction. It says in God’s word in Ephesians 6:14 ". . . not to be unevenly yoked. . ." This does not just apply to boyfriend and girlfriend relationships and marriage, but it applies to every relationship. When times get tough it is important to have someone who can help you stand firm in the faith and remind you of all God has done for you.

Four Ways to know you’ve found someone to be accountable to:
1) They’re a Christian.
2) They’re on your level or above in their walk with Christ.
3) They’re not afraid to tell you the truth and will tell you the truth when necessary.
4) You can trust them with your secrets and feelings.

If you’ve found someone to be accountable to, keep that person close by. Don’t be afraid to ask for their help. Let them know when you’re having a struggle or you need someone to help keep you holy. Make sure to pray with that person and it is also very important that you grow together.

It is also possible for you to hold someone accountable even if they can’t hold you accountable. You may be stronger than someone in your walk with Christ. In these cases help them when they need it. As Christians we all need to help each other through thick and thin. If someone comes to you and asks for your help, do everything that you can to make sure you help that person in Jesus’s name.
